History
"You have to know the past to understand the present."

1987
Senator Linie was founded in 1987 by Karl-Heinz Sager, who had the innovative vision of a 14-day round-the-world-service. Back then, the company was called “Senator Linie GmbH & Co. KG” and many shareholders, mainly from the shipping industry, participated in the visionary foundation of the new container line. In April 1987, the first scheduled service, the so-called RTW service was launched.
1994
Following German unification, we became an East and West German company, initially through close collaboration. In 1994, however, we merged with the shipping line division of Deutsche Seereederei Rostock, an East German state-owned enterprise founded in 1952 and the Bremer Vulkan Verbund AG in Bremen. Consequentially, we changed our name to “DSR Senator Lines”.
1997
Since 1997, Hanjin Shipping, one of the world’s biggest shipping lines, is our main shareholder.
2000
The shareholders took the decision to change our name to Senator Lines. Ever since, we have been operating under the name of “Senator Lines GmbH”.
