Hanjin, Senator, UASC starting Asia/North Europe connection
Hanjin Shipping and United Arab Shipping Co. are starting a Far East/Europe service called China North Express (CNX).
Hanjin's German affiliate Senator Lines is also taking slots on the new loop. The Bremen-based operator said the first westbound sailing will be made by the UASC newbuild Ibn Asakir from Qingdao on Nov. 20. The 4,024-TEU Hanjin Los Angeles, currently on the Mediterranean Asia America Pendulum (MAP), will follow that voyage.
It is understood that eight ships of about 4,000 TEUs will be deployed on the CNX, which will have a full port rotation of Qingdao, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Jeddah, Hamburg, Antwerp, Le Havre, Jeddah, Singapore and Qingdao.
According to the October World Liner Supply reports of ComPair Data (www.compairdata.com), American Shipper's affiliated database for global liner services, the weekly westbound capacity of the Asia to North Europe trade was about 190,000 TEUs, up 5 percent from the previous quarter.
