New CNX service
CHKY Alliance member Hanjin (6 ships) will actually commence a new Europe-Far East operation (DL 38/07). To be styled China North Express (CNX), its outside-alliance partner will be UASC (2 vessels), whereas the South Korean line’s subsidiary Senator Lines will take slots. The first of eight around 5,300 TEU vessels is to sail already in November. The rotation reads: Qingdao, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Jeddah, Hamburg, Antwerp, Le Havre, Jeddah, Singapore, and back to Qingdao.
Hanjin, Senator and UASC formed the United Alliance together with Cho Yang until the latter failed in 2001 and the grouping became inactive. This induced Hanjin and its 80% German subsidiary Senator Lines to join then what is now known as the CHKY Alliance. However, it continued co-operating frequently with the now standalone, multi-Arab nations- owned UASC (United Arab Shipping Company) on those Alliance services in which it deploys ships. For that reason, UASC is often considered an associated member of the loosely-knit CHKY Alliance, of which the other members are Coscon, “K” Line and Yang Ming.
