Hanjin and Senator launch new Far East/Middle East service

Hanjin Shipping and Senator Lines will launch a new Far East/Middle East service in November.

The service, which will be marketed as the Far East/Middle East service, known as the FMS, will initially deploy three vessels around 2,000 teu capacity, running on a fortnightly, but the plan is to upgrade to weekly frequency, probably during late December, early January 2008.

The first westbound sailing will be made from Pusan by the 2,000 teu Hanjin Port Adelaide on November 10th, and the return eastbound leg will be made on November 26th from Khor Fakkan.

Hanjin will provide the vessels, and Senator will take the slots on the FMS.

It is understood that five vessels will eventually be deployed, all around 2,000 teu capacity to make the weekly sailing frequency.

Port coverage for the new FMS will be : Pusan, Shanghai, Chiwan, Singapore, Khor Fakkan, Jebel Ali, Karachi, Singapore, Chiwan and back to Pusan.

Transit times for the FMS include Pusan to Jebel Ali in just 18 days (among the fastest in the market), and eastbound from Jebel Ali to Shanghai in 19 days.
