Senator Lines About to Phase in New Mediterranean-Canada Service Vessel

Bremen (Germany)-based Senator Lines will phase in a new vessel on its two-sling Mediterranean-Canada service (MCS) on 21 May. The recently chartered 2,130 teu "Montreal Senator" will replace the 2,017 teu "Canada Senator" currently operated on the service linking Mediterranean ports with Montreal. The new ship has initially been chartered for a period of two years. Mark Ehlers, director operational management, said “the increased vessel size of 2,130 teu, and the better speed capability of 20 knots, will increase the service quality of our Mediterranean-Canada link.”

Senator Lines to phase in larger, faster box ship on MCS

SENATOR Lines says it plans to phase in a new vessel on its two-sling Mediterranean-Canada service, called MCS. The recently chartered Montreal Senator will replace the Canada Senator currently running on the service that links a number of Mediterranean ports with Montreal. The phasing in of the 2,130-TEU Montreal Senator will take place on May 21 at the Italian port of Gioia Tauro. The 2,017-TEU Canada Senator, which has been serving the Mediterranean-Canada trade since April 2001, will then be phased out, a company statement said.

Senator Lines affirms its Med/Canada trade commitment

Despite the continued downturn in US import demand, and the possibility Canada may also be feeling the pinch, Senator Lines has affirmed its commitment to the Mediterranean/Canada trade through the newly-signed charter of the 2,130 teu Pacific Bridge from Danaos Shipping, which is to renamed Montreal Senator and phased into the Med/Canada Loop A service from late May.

    Senator sees strength in Med-Canada

GERMAN carrier Senator Lines is beefing up its Mediterranean/Canada service with the phasing-in of a faster and larger vessel in May. It will replace the 2,017teu Canada Senator (top speed of 18.5kt) with the 2,130teu, 20kt Montreal Senator, chartered for a two-year period. The move shows that the Mediterranean/Canada trade has not been infected by the weakness in the Europe-US trade where freight rates are under massive pressure, prompting carriers to shut down services.
