Senator doubles up on NMX service

Bremen-based Senator Lines has come to an agreement with Taipei-headquartered Yang Ming, its vessel operating partner, on the New Mediterranean Express service (NMX) that will double its slot capacity from early June.

While Senator refused to give exact details of the new deal, it is understood that involves several hundred TEU. Currently, the service deploys seven vessels with an average loading capacity of 5,551TEU. All of the tonnage is contributed by the Taiwanese company.

The latest move follows the carrier’s recent decision to up its allocation on the MEX service. This followed MOL’s retirement from the operation and it fully reflects the company’s confidence in the long-term strength of the Far East/Mediterranean trade.

‘Our doubling of capacity on both the MEX and NMX services complies with our intention to grow and constantly increase our market share,’ explained Hans-Hermann Mohr, ceo of Senator.

In particular, the agreement strengthens Senator’s operating presence in the all-important northern China trading sector, while exploiting the carrier’s niche in the China/Leghorn corridor.

The full itinerary of the NMX service is Shanghai, Ningbo, Xiamen, Kaohsiung, Hong Kong, Singapore, Port Said, Genoa, Leghorn, Fos, Port Said, Jeddah, Singapore, Hong Kong and return to Shanghai.
